The European Parliament adopted the resolution on starting accession negotiations with Albania and Macedonia with 412 votes in favor, 136 against and 30 abstaining.

The EU enlargement policy is the Union’s most effective foreign policy instrument, and further disintegration of that policy could lead to an increasingly unstable situation in the immediate neighborhood of the EU, the resolution warns.

This European Parliament resolution expresses disappointment with the EU’s failure to open accession negotiations for Albania and Macedonia over the blockade of France, the Netherlands and Denmark, although both countries have met the conditions for a new step and path towards European integration.
