20 extremist “jihad” cells are currently operating on the territory of the Balkans, and their goal is terrorist attacks across Europe, the Italian intelligence services warn, and the newspaper “Il Tempo” reports.
Most of these groups are on the territory of Kosovo, Albania and Bosnia and Herzegovina, but they also exist in Montenegro, Serbia and Macedonia. They represent, as it is claimed, an “incubator of security threats” for the whole of Europe. According to the Italian newspaper “Il Tempo”, these cells have existed for about two years, but recently, especially since the beginning of the war in Israel, their somewhat greater activity has been observed, “Blitz” reports.
These cells consist of around 500 ISIS returnees from the battlefields of Syria and Iraq, but new recruits are constantly being recruited, even among migrants crossing the Balkan route to Western Europe.
It is also known who the “head” of this organization is.
