The first train crossed along the new Belgrade – Novi Sad high speed railroad today, in just a little over an hour. The new railroad is part of a major project to build a high speed rail link between Hungary and Serbia, and further south deeper into the Balkans.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban were among the 270 passengers on the train that reached 200 kilometers per hour.
China supported the 75 kilometers long railroad as part of its continental Belt and Road project to a tune of two billion EUR. Serbia was negotiating this contract since 2016.
